Kinja'd!!!

Let’s do an ol’ fashioned Real Garage Challenge, it’s been awhile. You need to find a direct replacement for each of the members of your current garage. Here are your two challenge options:

A) Replace each of your vehicles with a vehicle that serves the same purpose for no more than 1/2 the price you paid on the vehicle it’s replacing.

Example: Did you buy a vehicle for $17,000? You need to find a direct replacement for $8,500 or less.

B) Replace each of your vehicles with a vehicle that serves the same purpose. Your budget is $10,000 per vehicle in your garage (total budget can be divided in anyway).

Example: If you own 3 vehicles then you have a $30,000 budget that can be split any way you like in order to replace the entire garage with vehicles that serve the same roles.

***Bonus points if you can keep the replacement vehicles within 10% of the same mileage as your current garage.

See how ya do, it’s been a long time since I have had you all do an actual challenge so enjoy yo’selves!

I paid nothing for my car, so free LFA.

Only if that LFA is half off of free or $10,000.

A knife so I can stab an LFA owner.

I could replace all the cars with the same cars for $10,000 a piece...The S600, the S-Type R, and the Vanden Plas. Hell, I could replace the TrailBlazer with an old Escalde ESV with a comparable 220,000 miles for that money.

You just reminded me that Paris Hilton has had two of those.

Had to get rid of the yellow one when she broke up with her guy. You know how that goes.

A: Dang. Getting a good deal isn’t so good, is it? $1250 isn’t a lot. Probably this though:

B:Easy, just get a newer version of what I have!

Within 10% of the mileage:

Oh but the fun part is actually going shopping to see what’s on the market! No worries, I know that’s all true.

I’m pretty sure you could grab a 2008 Mazda5 with a working engine, unless those held value better than a Wrangler...

My stable consists of a 2000 Miata with 25k IIRC (it’s the weekend toy, I can’t recall exact mileage) mi that I paid $9k or $9.5k (I forget which, it doesn’t actually matter) for, and a 2016 Prius with 4.5k mi that I paid $28k (out the door) for.

So, I’ve got $20k to replace those two cars, or $4750 to replace the Miata and $14k to replace the Prius.

The Miata’s role is being the fun toy. So, I’ll replace it with this, a 2011 CBR250R with 4800 mi for $2800: http://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/5818774792.html Note that that’s within 10% of the Prius’s mileage.

The Prius’s role is being the efficient, roadtrip-capable daily driver with a degree of cargo versatility. So, I’ll replace it with this, a 2013 Fiesta SE hatchback with 23,894 mi for $9975: http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?endYear=2017&zip=43055&transmissionCode=MAN&transmissionCodes=MAN&showcaseListingId=434703065&mmt=[FORD[FIESTA[]][]]&vehicleStyleCodes=HATCH&modelCode1=FIESTA&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&showcaseOwnerId=67739271&startYear=1981&makeCode1=FORD&firstRecord=0&maxMileage=30000&searchRadius=300&listingId=433464480&Log=0 Note that that’s within 10% of the Miata’s mileage.

Yes, I swapped my 10% cars. And, I met the terms of both challenges A and B in one challenge, with money left over in both cases.

Edit: Wait, bicycles are vehicles in my state. I’m redoing this in a reply to myself. It’ll be challenge B for maximum absurdity, and I don’t know exact mileage on one of the bicycles, and have no idea on the other.

My cars are all old and one of them was acquired in a trade, so challenge A would be, uh, next to impossible. So challenge B it is! 3 cars = $30,000 budget.

Car 1 (replaces my DD): this 2000 Civic EX manual 4-door. $1800. Probably needs some work, but it’s not hard to work on or get parts for.

http://richmond.craigslist.org/cto/5831878336.html

Car 2 (replaces my fun car/project): this 1989 Skyline GTS-T Type M 4-door. $13,000. Nice survivor. Would resto-mod and DD in good weather.

https://www.japaneseclassics.com/vehicle/1989-skyline-gts-t-type-m-3/

Car 3 (garage queen): this gorgeous 1991 Civic SiR. I’d leave it stock, slap some antique plates on it, clean it up a bit, and drive it when it feels warranted. As a bonus, it replaces a 1991 Honda in my garage. $11,500. Leaves a few grand left for repairs/mods on the other two.

2009 Forester 2.5X Limited with a few accessories bought new in 2009 for ~$27,700. Currently has 71,460 or so miles...

Half of that is $13,850...

Kinja'd!!!

Here ’s a 2009 Forester 2.5XT Limited with 71,551 miles for $13,987, which I’m sure could be negotiated a bit...

Also, those wheels pain me on that SVX; though, not as much as that drop...

So, adding my bicycles...

2011 TerraTrike Path 8-speed, paid $1100

2002 Dahon Boardwalk, paid $120 (we won’t count the mods)

Doing Challenge B, that gives me $40,000 of budget to replace everything. Because I don’t know mileage, this is giving up on the 10% bonus points.

Miata’s replacement: This thing: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5821368291.html for $2900

Prius’s replacement: 2017 Prius Prime Plus, $23,463 after federal rebate

TerraTrike’s replacement: Katanga WAW@2016, €9193, or $10099 how I’d configure it (most of it’s the Rohloff hub and the Bafang mid-drive)

Dahon’s replacement: Brompton, $1745 how I’d configure it

Really, where it got weird was the kit car and the bikes, tbh...

It has 15k on it...

Looks like I’m getting a salvage car.

Prius with 15k miles

Man, I would love to have $10k to replace my E34 lol.

Had a Cressida when I was a kid, and this is kind of the same thing. I mostly just want an auto trans for my DD. Don’t got time for a manny tranny.
